Mdm Lim’s persistence paid off. His son, Thomas Zhuo, fulfilled his academic potential and even managed to snag a scholarship to fund his tertiary studies. However, coming from a low-income family, Thomas still felt obliged to help make ends meet.
After serving his National Service, Thomas started part-time work as a tuition coordinator and convinced a few parents to show faith in this young man. Therefore, at the tender age of 21, Thomas started his teaching career.
During the first three years of his varsity life, with more than 20 students under his wing, Thomas considered himself a full-time tutor and a part-time student. He always prioritised his students’ needs and built a strong reputation as a tutor.
Thomas Applying Pareto Principles For His Own Studies
Upon completion of his bond at CPFB, Thomas taught Economics at SRJC as a contract teacher. He took a huge paycut (~50%) to pursue his passion but it was well worth it when he realised the H1 class he was teaching had topped the mid-terms. However, the bureaucracy and rigidity of school life finally took its toll. Eventually, Thomas decided not to enter NIE.
Thomas' Fruitful Experience At CPFB
The most enjoyable and rewarding teaching moments occurred during cosy consultation sessions with his students in SRJC, so upon leaving his role as a school teacher, Thomas started giving small group lessons. He was able to share his passion for English, Math and Economics with his students.
Most importantly, he could teach on his own terms, helping his students to study smart and effectively.
Ms Jasmine Ong

- Alumni of National Junior College
- Obtained Honours Degree @NTU
- 15 Years of teaching experience
Subjects Taught:
Upper Primary – Math & Science
Secondary – Math
Jasmine’s passion for Geography blossomed during her time at River Valley High School, where she was captivated by our physical world and the consequential impact of human actions. It was no surprise that when selecting her A-Level subjects, she chose Geography without any hesitation.
As expected, Jasmine scored an outstanding A grade in Geography during her A-Levels.
While contemplating her path for higher education, she initially considered becoming a teacher to impart her passion for Geography to students. However, a desire to explore the world beyond the confines of a classroom led her to decline the teaching opportunity and enroll in NTU Business School instead. Throughout her undergraduate years, she continued to take on tuition assignments, teaching Mathematics and Science to primary school students.
After graduating with Honours in Business, Jasmine embarked on her professional journey in an international publishing firm. Over time, she ventured into diverse industries, ranging from Oil & Gas to commodities like paper and cocoa. Climbing the corporate ladder, she eventually assumed a regional role that required frequent travel within South-East Asia.
However, the demanding schedule and constant travel took a toll on Jasmine’s well-being, resulting in a health crisis that prompted her to reevaluate her priorities. During an extended break to contemplate her next move, she took on a few tuition assignments, rekindling her fervour for teaching and the joy of sharing knowledge.
They say that teaching is a calling, and after deviating from her original plan, Jasmine has found her way back to the profession she is truly passionate about.
